050618 - Moon & Heublein Tower


No, this is not a double exposure. If you do your research you can find out when and where the moon is going to rise. Since Heublein Tower sits atop Avon mountain, you have to take into account the time it takes for the moon to break the crest of the hill. A general rule of thumb is one minute for each degree of elevation. As you can see, everything came together beautifully. The clouds added a nice touch.

The image was shot with a Nikon F4 and 500mm f/4 lens on Ektachrome Plus 100. I spotmetered on the moon and opened up 1 stop.
