120122_020 - Wadsworth Falls

There are two entrances to Wadsworth Falls State Park in Middlefield. The back entrance, where the falls are located, is a small parking lot on Cherry Hill Rd., off Rt. 157. The falls are about 100 yards away across a grassy field and down wood steps to the base of the falls. There are a couple of benches to sit on and have a picnic.

Even though it had been below freezing for a week or so, the water flow prevented the entire falls from freezing. Given the position of the sun at that time of the year, I waited until the afternoon to take a shot. Strap-on crampons on your boots are a must because the spray from the falls made the wood steps treacherous with ice.

The image was shot with a Nikon D3x and 24-70mm f2.8 lens at ISO 100.
